Teachers and Educational Groups! WAFCS is now a Clock Hour Provider!  If your group would like to apply for clock hours for an educational event, contact Diane Grossenbacher, WAFCS Executive Director, at WAFCS@msn.com and she will send you all the details.  Processing the application only takes a couple weeks through the WAFCS Clock Hour Approval Committee.

This workshop has been created for the person who wants to take their food and cooking knowledge and skills to the next level. You will spend the day with hands-on activities focusing on food safety and sanitation, food preparation, menu planning, nutrition, budgeting and careers. Chef Greg Atkinson, who has published 5 cookbooks and is the director of Culinary Consulting, will be providing this dynamic workshop for only 24 people so register quickly because space is limited.

This 1-1/2 day workshop is designed for the FIRST TIME instructors of Teaching Academy/Careers in Education program. It is an 8-hour training that will include the TRFT curriculum binder and CD, an instructor certification and lesson demonstrations.

 

GRADS Update

This workshop is for the GRADS teacher who is looking for hands on lesson plans, handouts, teacher notes, power points and much more to enhance their GRADS program. You will be able to exchange ideas and lessons with other GRADS instructors. There will be an update on childcare issues and DSHS information. Be sure to bring a finished lesson plan with the GLE's and standards as well as the required materials to make that lesson a success (copy of the PowerPoint, handouts, etc.).

Tour Yakima Valley Museum , Soda Fountain and Gilbert House

The museum offers historical exhibits on the Yakima Valley —its natural history, American Indian culture, pioneer life, early city life and the roots and development of the Valley's fruit industry. Participants will have a chance to stop at the museum's Art Deco soda fountain to enjoy one of the popular sodas, malts and “phosphates” currently available. Visitors will also have an opportunity to visit the H.M. Gilbert Homeplace , built in 1898. This late Victorian farmhouse is now filled with period furnishings.

This tour, conducted by an interior decorator from Modern Millwork and Design, features several newly completed homes in this upscale resort development, including one recently purchased by a WAFCS member. You will have an opportunity to see the latest in home design and amenities and ask questions about what's hot in today's market. The tour will conclude with refreshments at the community clubhouse.

Join us for this elegant three course tea to begin our celebration of the 100 th anniversary of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly the American Home Economics Association) in 2009. Come, relax and partake in the amiable art of teatime hospitality while you reconnect with other family and consumer science professionals.Guests will be served three courses: Savories, Tea Breads,

and of course, Sweets, along with a selection of high quality teas.

 

Complementing the meal will be short presentations on the “History and Art of High Tea” and the

“Founding of the American Home Economics Association (now AAFCS).”

 

If you really want to get into the spirit of the moment, period costumes and hats will be a delightful addition to the afternoon.

 

There will be two Seatings: 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

Each seating is limited to 20 people.

All proceeds will go towards supporting WAFCS Programs
